Day 1 of Canadian NFL Flag National Championships Delivers Thrills in Toronto

The Canadian NFL FLAG National Championships kicked off Saturday at North Toronto Collegiate Institute, and the opening day of action more than lived up to the hype. Sixteen of the Canada’s top youth flag football teams are battling for the national crown across three divisions: Coed 10U, Coed 12U, and Coed 14U.

Starting promptly at 10 a.m., the tournament’s first day saw a non-stop barrage of speed, skill, and sportsmanship across the fields. A total of 28 pool-play games were played throughout the day, providing an electrifying showcase of the talent that has emerged from the NFL FLAG Regional Tournament Series.

The athletes left everything on the field, high-scoring thrillers and nail-biting defensive battles defined the day’s slate. With teams from across the country vying for a coveted spot in the championship game— and a shot at representing Canada on the international stage — the intensity was felt all around.

The pool-play excitement isn’t over yet. Teams will return to North Toronto Collegiate Institute Sunday morning for the final seven group games to determine their seeding. Following the conclusion of the pool stage, the tournament will transition directly into the single-elimination bracket play, where one loss means teams are going home.
