Moody’s wins first Alabama girls HS flag state championship

Behind a strong performance on both side of the ball by by sophomore quarterback Serenity Rutledge, Moody won its first Alabama girls’ flag high school football championship. Rutledge rushed 20 times for 124 yards and completed 11-of-21 passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns as the Blue Devils beat defending Class 1A/5A state champion Montgomery Catholic 27-18 at the 2025 Super 7 State Football Championships at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.

 Moody (22-3) jumped out to a 22-0 lead an never looked back against Montgomery Catholic, playing in its third straight state championship game. Sophie White finished the game with five catches for 39 yards and a touchdown. Zoey Terry (1 TD), Hockman (1 TD) and Abi Gray each had two receptions each for Moody.

On defense Cheyenne Moore had a 48-yard Pick-6 for Moody, coached by Wren Moore. Rutledge led Moody’s defensive effort with eight stops. Terry had four – including two sacks.

Montgomery Catholic finishes 21-5.

The girls’ flag championships serve as the opener to the Super 7 boys’ tackle championships.
