A League of Her Own: Lexie Hoobler is the Ultimate Two-Way Threat

Highland Park Freshman Lexie Hoobler Dominates on the Field and Finds Her Flag Football Home with the 14U Chicago Titans

Lexie Hoobler is not your average high school freshman. In an era where girls’ flag football is exploding, few athletes possess the unique, gritty foundation of this multi-sport phenom from Highland Park, Illinois. A state-qualifying track thrower, a fierce wrestler, and an IL State Cup-winning club soccer player, Lexie has excelled at everything. But her heart belongs to football—both tackle and flag.

This fall, Lexie faced a difficult decision: continue her dominant tackle career where she was named Team Captain and starting Middle Linebacker for the Highland Park freshman squad, or dedicate herself to the rapidly growing world of girls’ flag football. Ultimately, she chose the challenge and the family of the tackle team. However, it is with the 14U Chicago Titans that Lexie is establishing herself as a true national-level, two-way threat in the flag game.

Tackle Grit Meets Flag Finesse

Lexie’s football journey began in 6th grade with tackle football. She wasn’t just on the team; she was a force. By 8th grade, she had earned the respect of every teammate, and not always easily. In one memorable padded practice, a teammate called out the other boys, asking why they were scared of a girl. He then stepped up to the front of the line to face her in the Oklahoma drill. The result was immediate: he never said a word about her again. He quickly learned it wasn’t about being afraid of a girl; it was Lexie Hoobler, the elite athlete, that commanded his respect.

Her tackle highlight reel includes a game-winning 40-yard touchdown run, showcasing the football versatility IQ that makes her so unique.

While the tackle experience forged her physical toughness and defensive mindset—skills she carried into earning a captain spot as a freshman—flag football has become the perfect outlet for her complete skill set.

The Titans: A Championship Chemistry

Lexie’s flag football roots run deep with the Glenview/Glenbrook South Jr. Titans program, where she competed fiercely against and alongside her current 14U Chicago Titans teammates, including the sensational freshman All-State contender Cooper Godbout. The 14U Titans are not a mercenary team built on recruiting; they are a cohesive unit built on years of shared experience, grit, and a “next girl up” mentality.

In the recent Chicago Bears NFL Regional Tournament, where the Titans dominated, Lexie’s unique impact was on full display. Despite the team missing key offensive weapons, Lexie stepped up to be “unstoppable,” securing 9 receiving touchdowns—even successfully beating consistent double-teams in a demonstration of her elite ball skills.

A summer invite to the All American Flag Invite in Canton, Ohio, confirmed her national standing. Competing as one of the youngest players against high school superstars like Stella Hang (Jr. Olympic Team), Lexie didn’t just hold her own; she helped her team win the tournament with multiple interceptions and touchdowns.

The Ultimate Weapon

Lexie is listed on the Chicago Titans roster simply as a “WR/Safety +” but her father Jeff calls her what she truly is: the “Best football player on the field on both sides of the ball.”

Whether it’s her fearless attitude, her ability to make a play when the team needs it most (the “it factor”), or her tackle-trained defensive ferocity, Lexie Hoobler is the archetype of the modern girls’ football player. She brings the physical toughness and strategic depth of tackle football to the speed and skill of the flag game, making her and the 14U Chicago Titans a must-watch team as they eye the national stage.
